Stephen Ministry

Farewell to Stephen Ministry

On Thursday, September 17, nine of God’s most faithful servants gathered to celebrate a ministry that has been a part of Trinity for 15 years. That ministry, Stephen Ministry, began here at Trinity in 1994 when volunteers agreed to take part in a week long leadership training event and upon their return, to train others to serve as Stephen Ministers.

The nine servants who gathered on the 17th included Stephen Ministers: Glenda Poteat, David Apps, Carolyn Jiles, Jo Walden, Donna Sieg, Sandra Underwood, and John Rhoda. Also included were Stephen Ministry Leaders Diane Giermann and Eileen Wilson.

What made this celebration unique was that it also marked the end of this ministry at Trinity. Over the years, Stephen Ministers provided one-to-one distinctively Christian Care to individuals who were experiencing some type of difficult life situation. Over the years, it has been a challenge to continue to find individuals who were able to make a two-year commitment to be a Stephen Minister. At the same time, it was difficult for individuals to step forward to receive the confidential care provided by Stephen Ministers. Please know that it was not an easy decision to bring this ministry to a close. Although it was not an easy decision, it was agreed that it was the right decision.

Many individuals have been blessed by the care of Stephen Ministers. We thank those individuals for allowing their church home to provide Christian care during difficult times. Stephen Ministers were the care givers while God was the cure giver.

In addition to the nine mentioned previously, others have served as Stephen Ministers and Stephen Leaders. They include: Carol Sieg, Don Sieg, Pastor Barry Kolb, Nancy Kolb, Julie Maschhoff, Lori DeVary Methner, Barb Colba, Shirley Cumpston, Nancy Wade, Pastor David Hinz, Bob Starckovich, Dave Wilcox, Barb Guetschow, Carol Springer, Bev Branning, Marcia Mays, Amy Cottone, Chris Trimble, Susan Park, Sherry Stockum, Dudrun Dunt and Pastor Tom Wirsing.

We thank all of them as well for their leadership and for being the eyes, hands, ears and feet that allowed Christ’s love to touch so many lives.

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the Gospel from the first day until now. Philippians 1:3-5
