Prayer is . . .

If you asked 50 people to complete that sentence, you would probably get close to 50 varieties of answers. Why is that? As Christians, we have a sense of what prayer is. We know we are to pray.

What we don’t always know is . . .

. . . how are we to pray?
. . . what words are we to say?
. . . why do I get distracted when I pray?
. . . does God answer ALL my prayers or just some of them?
. . . are some people really better at praying than others?
. . . why is praying out loud so difficult?
. . . am I to pray in secret or with other people?
. . . am I selfish if I ask others to pray for me?
. . . what difference does praying make if God knows all things?

If you have ever wondered about any of these types of things, join us for a very special focus on prayer beginning January 1, 2012.

On each Sunday and Wednesday in January, there will be a special emphasis on prayer in the sermon and throughout the worship experience. The messages are intended to help all of us grow in our attitude about prayer in our lives, our knowledge of what God’s Word says about prayer, and in our skill to be more confident in our prayers.

The focus on prayer will last far beyond these five weeks in January. Here is how "Lord, teach us to pray . . . A Lifelong Journey of Prayer" will begin:

  • December 31, 2011, 3-4 pm A gathering at Trinity to pray for the joys and challenges of 2011 while we look forward to what God has in store for us personally and as part of the prayer emphasis in 2012.
  • January 1, 2012 - 9:30 Sunday morning Bible studies at 9:30 on Psalms and The Lord's Prayer begin
  • January 1, 2012 - Family Life Prayer Calendars are available
  • January 1 and 4 - Come Just As You Are
  • January 8 and 11 - How Can I Possibly Trust?
  • January 15 and 18 - This Is Getting Personal
  • January 22 and 25 - Watching The Divine Artist
  • January 29 and February 1 - Praying In Real Life
  • February 15 6:00 pm Prayer worship service
